VINA’s The Tailgate 2019 is Great Success

VINA Community Dental Center’s 11th annual Tailgate took place at Crystal Gardens on November 14, the Thursday before the big game. Over 225 fans of Green & White and Maize & Blue attended to cheer on their sides and donate to the work of VINA in their school’s name. (By the way, this was the latest the big game has been since 1928, usually occurring in early to mid- October.)

The night was a great success financially.  The clinic raised just over $50,000 that will go towards clinic costs to bring oral health and dental care to those in the Livingston County community that otherwise would not be able to afford it.

The event featured an expansive silent auction selection, 50/50 and Big Card Game raffle, and Dollar-for-Dollar ($4$) Gift Cards, which allows attendees to purchase gift cards at face value. There was also a special cornhole competition to compete for the “neutral” money, the donations that were from people unaffiliated with either team.

In the first ever UM-MSU Cornhole Competition, Captain Mike Murphy was victorious, claiming just under $10,000 for the MSU side. Michigan Captain Buddy Moorehouse is itching for a rematch in 2020.

With the MSU cornhole victory, the Green & White took home the banner of “VINA Victors for 2019,” breaking the 5-5 tie from the first 10 years.

VINA wants to thank the many event sponsors, both old and new, who helped make this event such a great success. Thanks also go to the many businesses and individuals who donated an item to be included in the Silent Auction and $4$.

Special thanks go to Sheriff Mike Murphy, Buddy Moorehouse, and all the volunteers who made the night go so smoothly. Finally, VINA thanks all the loyal tailgaters who showed up for the friendly competition to make sure that their neighbors who need dental care receive it through VINA.

Mark your calendars for next year’s Tailgate 2020, which will take place October 8, 2020.
